Christmas is coming, what’s on your wishlist? Today you’re gonna meet Sarah, a talented woman who could change your #bagroutine. Why? Read the interview below and get ready to revolutionize your life!
– What’s your name?
I’m Sarah Haran.
– How old are you?
Just turned 50!
– Where do you come from?
I was born in London.
– Where do you live?
I now live in a small country village just outside Glasgow, Scotland.
– When did you start your project?
I started VVA in 2011 but have really focused on the brand in the past year. I now have 10,000 followers across social media. I have my handbags worn by more and more fans as well as some UK based celebrities.
– How did you start it?
I came up with the VVA concept a few years ago. I’d love to say it was conscious decision or an epiphany, but to be honest, it was never a deliberate plan. The idea developed from a combination of different influences in my life rather than from one idea. As a director of an AIM listed IT Services company, travelling every week with meetings during the day and functions in the evening and being faced with baggage restrictions I knew first hand that having a multi-functional handbag would be useful. I saw an opportunity to address my travel frustrations by creating a handbag concept that could transform from travel to business to play. My idea was to combine functionality and versatility with style – utilising the very best leather and metal components. The VVA concept was born.
– Where does your inspiration come from?
I am very inspired by function over form and I love clean lines and uncluttered looks and mixing vintage with new. I love creating beautiful handbags but I want them to be functional and stylish rather than something that doesn’t aid your everyday life. It sounds odd but the inspiration I get in creating something that is so personal to each wearer yet is an everyday “must have” inspires me to ensure my handbags provide functional versatility. Just think, women often use the same handbag every day and take it everywhere with them, and panic if they cannot find it. I get excited knowing that my handbags are carried everywhere by my fans – it’s got to be with them as it often carries the contents of their life.
– What materials do you use?
I use Italian leathers, suede for the interiors of my handbags, and silver nickel components that I have designed and source. As my handbags are of premium quality I want to make sure that all materials are of the highest quality as that is what my customers appreciate about my brand.
– What type of look works better with your creations?
VVA design handbags that are timeless for everyday use. Our handbag range has expanded so that our handbags work beautifully for both business and causal day to day looks that can also carry you through to the evening. Key staples for a more business approach – things like a beautiful coat or jacket, wrap dresses, and pencil skirts for work look amazing finished off with a Dahlia Tote or an Aster Shoulder Bag. For more informal weekends then our Poppy Satchel looks great with jeans and a more casual approach to dressing. The front pocket Ivy on all of our handbags can be removed and used in the evening for cocktails parties, dinner engagements or worn cross body for girls that like to go dancing! We have created a truly versatile handbag range that will suit every occasion.
– As we love music, what’s on your current playlist?
I’m a bit old fashioned so I have a mix of Adele mixed with Sade, and more upbeat songs from Little Mix and Kings of Leon.
– Tell us your plans for the future!
Our plans for the future are to continue to develop our range and build our brand. We are still very small in a world made up of large scale brands that we have to compete with. Our versatile handbag concept is something that we believe offers a different approach to handbag wearers and we wish to continue to grow our fan base.
Basically, she created a magical 2 in 1 tote that you can costumize with different straps, pom poms, tassels and pockets. On my wishlist now there are two new Dahlia models in red and tan and a couple of clutches.
Now tell me which models you’re craving!
