Her collection includes in-house designs crafted by local artisans, rare one-off pieces discovered during explorations and repurposed vintage gems that have not seen the light of day in decades. Elaine Chow. I also go by Lainny, echow and Ling Ling – which is my Chinese middle name.
– How old are you?
I’m 31 years young!
– Where do you come from?
I am Taiwanese-American and have lived in Taipei, Los Angeles, and Shanghai. All of these cities are home to me because I’ve spent significant amounts of time at different stages of my life in each city.
– Where do you live?
Currently living in Taipei, where I was born and lived until middle school.
– When did you start your project?
2015, when the moment of “If Not Now Then When” hit.
– How did you start it?
I started sourcing in the jewelry district of Taipei with literally $20 in my pocket. Now I am designing and producing my own designs along with selling vintage jewelry I have collected over the years, some of which I repurpose into more wearable and contemporary designs.
– Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from a millennial who traverses fluidly between Eastern & Western culture. A girl who is always exploring cities (and in turn, exploring herself) on pubic transportation, on foot or hiking whenever she gets the chance to. I listen to an eclectic range of music and movies are a huge inspiration to me as well.
Mainly Brass as a base metal, accented with Cubic Zirconia and Austrian crystal. We like to keep it natural and love the raw look of brass, so we only seldomly plate the metal in 18K yellow or rose gold.
– What type of look works better with your creations?
Honestly, I don’t think my designs are limited to one particular look – the wearer is free to style them as she pleases and to suit the different occasions that arise. But if I really have to pick – casual chic, pairing with sneakers and girly outfits.
